PROJECTILE POETRY PRESENTS: THE OAKLAND SLAM w/ Aya de Leon
This Thursday, February 10th, at Oaklandish (411 2nd st.) is the long awaited return of the Oakland Slam. In this, our first show at our NEW VENUE, twelve poets will battle it out poetically to see who gets to represent The Town this summer in Albuquerque. The top 2 poets of the evening get a guaranteed spot in Finals as well as ca$h and bragging rights!! In addition to the Slam we'll have a short open mic for those who don't want to compete and the lovely DJ Agana on the ones and twos.

Our feature for the evening will be none other than the wonderfully talented and renowned Aya de Leon. Aya (ayadeleon.com), fresh off a wildly successful run of her one woman show “Thieves in the Temple: The Reclaiming of Hip Hop” was on the 2000 San Francisco Slam team, was a Poet in Residence at Stanford last year, appeared on HBOs Def Poetry and has toured and published extensively. Aya has also received a Goldie award in the Spoken Word artist category from the SF Bay Guardian and was named the best theater discovery by the SF Chronicle. She's shared the stage with Eve Ensler, the Roots, and she was a co-author of the book “How to Get Stupid White Men Out of Office.”
